"For a few short days every spring, New Yorkers are invited to enter the fascinating world of some of Manhattan’s finest artists. Now in its 15th year, The TriBeCa Open Artist Studio Tour (TOAST) is an open invitation to the public to take a free, self-guided tour through artists’ studios in TriBeCa. TOAST attendees are able to visit the artists’ studios, view their work and talk to the artists themselves. Those who take the tour will also have the chance to purchase work directly from the artists, helping to support them in the pursuit of their craft.

Ruth McLaughlin, treasurer of TOAST and a participating artist said, 'We’re excited to offer a true glimpse behind the curtain that exposes where neighborhood artists create, what inspires them and how they do what they do. This is a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in an open atmosphere of discussion and artistic enlightenment.' Shawn Washburn, President of TOAST, who has also exhibited at MoMA adds, 'This is our largest art walk ever, with almost a 100 artists participating this year. The event offers the public a great opportunity to experience a variety of artistic styles.' "

October 2010  :
Excerpt from
Review: 14th Annual Gowanus Art Studios Tour

By Diamond Bradley
October 17, 2010

"Art can be anything. Proven, case-in-point, at the 14th Annual Gowanus Artists Studio Tour that took place October 2nd. The event lasted from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., showcasing various kinds of art from all different kinds of artists in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn, NY.

Twenty-eight studios spread across 19 blocks housing artists and art aficionados; along with the smell of red and white wine, cheese and chocolate loading the hallways.
...

Lee-Georgescu, dipped and dabbed in different color experiments, as well as photo-etching and woodblock painting. One piece in particular called Crevice was a wet-on-wet; (wet paint on wet paper), brushed upside down for a dripping effect at the top with a mix of spray paint at the bottom. Rose, pinks, and dark greens in Crevice drew a volcanic eruption in the minds of onlookers, as well as a depiction of Hades, and even the entering of the first circle of Hell in Dante’s Inferno.
...

There were also other exhibits of ceramics, glass, collage, and works on canvas present at different studios.

The Annual Gowanus Artists Studio Tour is an event that comes around every October, confirming that art can truly be anything..."

"... Upon entering the gallery there was several large pieces that grabbed my attention.  However, since I am particularly interested in fabrics, I gravitated towards Laurie Lee-Georgescu’s Untitled painting installation.  Three large sheer rectangular pieces of fabric suspended one behind the other from the ceiling almost reaching to the floor.  Treated with dye or paint, I am unsure.  The color took on a very non objective form of vibrant reds, blues and yellows.  Lee-Georgescu then seemingly went in with a brush and painted the most beautiful and delicately sparse areas of crisp lines.  The piece has a very unassuming presence at first.  Because of the sheerness the size does not draw you.  There is no visual weight to the color necessarily.  It is the delicate nature of the treatment of the cloth that draws you in and begs you to look for more.   The boldness of color in certain areas counterbalance the softness of others and the treatment of the painted lines move you all over the composition."

Febrero 2010  :
   Entrevista con Laurie.

-Laura Lee-Georgescu
